Explain it to me... MICROSOFT MESH

May 11, 2021
Mike Paterson

Microsoft Mesh has the capability of changing the way companies and teams conduct business. Could this be the future of remote working?

Why do I care?

If you are...
Business Manager

Enhance virtual meetings, conduct virtual design sessions, help others remotely, and host immersive virtual meet-ups to boost productivity.

Designers

Enhance 3D design reviews by enabling users to join from anywhere using any device. Annotate 3D models in real-time.

Employee

Allow you to be in the same virtual space as your teammates or customers from the comfort of your home or office. Hold your meetings in a board room or the ocean floor!

What is it?

Microsoft Mesh enables people to collaborate with one another with presence, as if physically present in the same room. Through Mesh-enabled experiences, people can gather together as 3D avatars, or photorealistic representations of themselves in mixed reality. Proximity and spatial audio let people know where they are relative to one another. Users can visualize and annotate content together in a shared 3D space. A user can look at the person they're talking to, and point to features on a shared 3D object.

Microsoft Mesh is an ambitious network of AR/VR devices and services to enable real presence via eye contact, facial expressions, and gestures to create shred experiences and collaboration.

What's the big deal?

Currently, the VR/MR applications are few and far between for anything beyond gaming. While this tech will greatly improve and possibly re-invent the gaming space, there are high hopes for it being the preferred way to host and participate in meetings and conferences that provide attendees the immersive experience of being there in person while geographically located far away.

Training, especially on complex topics such as surgery, equipment maintenance, and air traffic control, is difficult to do without being in the same room as an instructor and looking at the same set of objects from multiple perspectives. With Microsoft Mesh, employees can learn together from anywhere thanks to holoportation, holographic sharing, and visualization. Microsoft Mesh helps improve the efficacy of virtual training while reducing travel and logistics costs.

Microsoft Mesh has the capability of making the world a bit smaller by providing users a virtual office, as well as helping discover scientific breakthroughs once only capable by physical travel and costly experiments.

Our team at Cloud Construct is excited about the potential applications for Microsoft Mesh in both professional and personal settings. We look forward to working with Microsoft Mesh and other new and innovative technologies for future client engagements.
